Explore the design and practical tabletop use of the Stargazer Chonk D20, a large 40mm chonk dice. Learn who it suits best and where it falls short.
Quick answer
The Stargazer Chonk D20 is a visually striking oversized 40mm d20 perfect for players who want a showpiece dice for special rolls or display. Its large size makes it less practical for everyday use in crowded tabletop games.
Design and visual appeal
The Stargazer Chonk D20 features a wolf howling into a night sky, with a chilly, dark aesthetic that stands out. The 40mm size is twice that of a standard d20, making the design details easy to see even from across the table. The handmade resin construction gives each dice a unique character, though slight variations are part of the appeal.
Tabletop practicality
While the chonk dice is eye-catching, its size can be a drawback in practice. It may not fit in standard dice trays, and rolling it on a crowded board can knock over miniatures or cards. The weight and heft make it satisfying to roll, but it's best reserved for dramatic moments rather than routine checks.
Decision rules for the Stargazer Chonk D20
- If you want a display piece or collector's item: The Stargazer Chonk D20's unique wolf-and-night-sky design and large 40mm size make it an excellent addition to a dice collection or as a decorative piece.
- If you need a daily driver for regular gaming: This oversized dice is less practical for frequent use due to its size. It may be cumbersome to roll in tight spaces and could disrupt game flow. Consider a standard-sized set for everyday play and use the chonk for special rolls.
- If you value handmade artistry: Each dice is handmade by skilled resin artists and quality-inspected, so you get a unique piece with visual depth that mass-produced dice lack.
Product details
- The Stargazer Chonk D20: This is a single oversized chonk 40mm d20, twice the size of a normal d20. The large size makes the design highly visible but also means it requires more space to roll and may not fit standard dice trays.
